Joy has lived in Del Ray since 1999. She has done a range of non-profit work, from managing civil
society programs in Ukraine and Belarus, to providing services to refugees and immigrants in the DC area.
She also served 10 years on the board of The MARPAT Foundation, which provided grants to DC area
organizations in fields such as arts and culture, social services, and family planning.
Joy's family discovered ROAM several years ago, when one of her daughters joined a band
and another enrolled in guitar lessons.
Since then, Joy's daughters collectively have taken drum lessons, guitar lessons, violin lessons,
and played in rock bands -- all while refusing to play music with each other.
They do, however, share the view of ROAM as not just a music school, but as a supportive and fun community.
With Friends of ROAM, Joy looks forward to making ROAM's high quality and enriching music programs
accessible to more young musicians in the area.
