About Joy

Joy has lived in Del Ray since 1999. Her family discovered ROAM several years ago, when one of her daughters joined a band and another enrolled in guitar lessons. Since then, Joy's daughters collectively have taken drum lessons, guitar lessons, violin lessons, and played in rock bands -- all while refusing to play music with each other. They do, however, share the view of ROAM as not just a music school, but as a supportive and fun community.

Originally from Massachusetts (and a die-hard Red Sox fan), Joy has done a range of non-profit work, from managing programs in Ukraine and Belarus, to working with refugees and immigrants in the DC area. She also served for many years on the board of The MARPAT Foundation, which provided grants to social service organizations in DC.

Joy was excited to join Friends of ROAM because of its commitment to making fun and high quality music programs accessible to more young musicians in our area.
